| Over the past decade, the "Weymuller" has regularly drawn the top-ranked women professionals from all over the world, and become the premier women’s event in North America. Recent winners have included Michelle Martin (Australia) (three times), Cassie Jackman Campion (England), Fiona Greaves (England), Leilani Joyce (New Zealand), and for the second time last year Sara Fitzgerald (Australia). Created by Carol Weymuller, a former assistant professional at The Heights Casino, and first played in 1973, its purpose was to promote women’s squash in the U.S. In 1980, to honor her contributions, the tournament was renamed The Carol Weymuller Open. Originally it was a small, hardball event limited to the top players in the U.S. and Canada. In 1993, after the conversion to softball, seven-time Weymuller winner, Alicia McConnell, then the Club’s co-head professional, successfully transformed the tournament into a WISPA event. | ||||||
